Hello CWC members!

Happy April!! I greatly enjoyed seeing many of you at our Sterling Math and Science fundraiser on March 28th at Ballantyne Country Club! I hope you all had as much fun as I did, connecting with wonderful friends, enjoying a delicious Italian dinner, and most importantly, raising money for such a worthwhile cause! Thanks to your generosity, we raised in excess of $20,000 for Sterling Math and Science. This is truly amazing and a testament to the generosity of our CWC members! Be sure to take a look at all of the wonderful pictures in the Philanthropy section of this newsletter!

I’ve shared in the past that one of our goals is to continue to grow our CWC membership. Our private Facebook group is our primary strategy to accomplish this. We opened our Facebook group up to friends of members on March 1st. Please use the link below to invite friends into our Facebook group. Your friends can join our Facebook group to learn more about us and interact with us, and we anticipate that this will inspire some of these women to eventually join our club! Please help us out with this and welcome friends of yours into our community!

So much is going on with Clubs! It is fantastic to see how many of our Club events are full with large groups of members attending our club events. I have also noticed many new members at our Club events, and I’m thrilled that you are getting out to join us and enable all of us to make new friends! I’m excited to hear how well our newest club, Mexican Train, has been received, and I look forward to personally joining that group for the April event!

As the end of this program year approaches, I am very excited that we will be able to announce all Executive Board members for 2025 – 2026. Please be on the lookout for a special edition on April 2nd communicating these exciting announcements, and please take the time to familiarize yourself with the new Board. Speaking of the new Board, we will want to hear your input again, as we begin planning for the 2025 – 2026 program year. We will send out our annual survey (on a broad range of club topics) in late April, so please plan on participating in that. It is so important to me that we continue to improve our already amazing club based on your feedback and ideas!

Looking forward to seeing you at one of our many club events in the near future!
 Laurey

A Stellar Evening - Under a canopy of twinkling lights and celestial décor, Starry Night, benefiting Sterling Math and Science ("STEM") Fundraiser, transported guests into a world where science, technology, engineering, and mathematics shone as brilliantly as the stars above. Held at Ballantyne Country Club, this enchanting evening gathered passionate supporters to celebrate and fundraise for STEM summer camp education initiatives.

The Starry Night gala was more than just an evening of glamour—it was a testament to the power of community and the boundless possibilities that STEM education offers.

Welcome everyone! Spring has sprung bringing a surge of rebirth.
And the days
are getting even longer!
This rebirth includes the search for two club leads as chairs. YOU are the one we have been waiting for to lead The Home and Garden Club and The Travel Club.
The Home and Garden Club: A monthly event that offers its members a fresh array of new and creative ideas to turn your home and garden into a unique personal sanctuary for the enjoyment of you, your family and friends. Regardless of when there is a gathering, there is the enjoyment of making friends, sharing ideas, learning new techniques, and helping each other to live our best lives.
The Travel Club: Will lead a variety of local day trips and overnight experiences which will set the stage for what’s to come next for the fun-loving women of CWC in the 2025-2026 season and beyond.

If you haven’t done so already, join the email invitation list of new clubs: Afternoon Bunco, Mexican Train and Evening Euchre. Just go to CWC Home Page and at the top of the page click on Clubs – choose the club whose group you want to join and then click SIGN ME UP.   That’s it – You’re in!!
Once again, how do we maintain healthy and active clubs?  Attendance! Attendance! Attendance while keeping “No Shows and Late Cancelation” to a minimum. If you must cancel, please do so timely through the online system. Please be considerate of the plans made with you in mind. You can also email or call the Club Chair who will be happy-glad to hear from you.

YES! Another BIG “THANK YOU” to the CWC members that have offered their lovely homes to host club event activities for the 2024-2025 season. We really, really love and appreciate YOU!!

Volunteer Events & Happenings in Philanthropy

HUGE THANKS to everyone involved in our glorious Starry Night event – where we explored “a world of possibilities for local schools and students.”

This incredible evening started with glasses of wine or bourbon out on the Ballantyne Country Club patio and looking at over 50 gorgeous gift baskets and three great Stem Camp booths.  The evening then continued with a delicious dinner and finally brief, heartfelt sharing about the impact of a night like this on local underserved students and schools.

There are too many people to thank for this great event, from every guest whose generosity led to record-breaking contributions adding up to over $ 20,000.!!!  to our gift basket creators, CWC Sterling Board members, check- in and check-out teams, the wonder women of CWC communications, Clubsgiving, donation solicitors/ contributors, matching gift contributors and more!  A special shout-out to our CWC founders, who envisioned Philanthropy as a vital part of this Club’s mission.

Pictured above is our AMAZING planning team:  Laurey Cosentino, Betty Blackwell, Crystal Egbuna, Gunnel Greenhagen,  Tammy Podrebarac, Melissa Waters, Sandy Wolchok and Becky Hart.    Deepest gratitude to you all!

PROMISING PAGES

We are grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with Promising Pages, helping to clean and repair books for children in need. It’s a joy to know that each book we touch will spark imagination and learning for kids in barren areas of Charlotte. Seeing the power of stories come to life for K-5 students fills our hears with purpose.

We appreciate all of the 11 volunteers who came to volunteer and we welcome a new volunteer Kristen LeCrone!

Ceci Robinson, Volunteer Coordinator, Promising Pages

ASSISTANCE LEAGUE CRAFT KIT/SUPPLY COLLECTION DRIVE

We will be collecting items for craft kits from April 1 to April 15 to be handed out to homeless children in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System for summer fun. There are approximately 5,000 homeless children in the system. Their living arrangements vary from emergency shelters to living in cars, campgrounds or temporary housing, like hotels.

Items we will be collecting:
Coloring books, crayons, pencils (colored and regular), colored markers, paint sets, paper (regular and construction), notebooks, diaries, scissors (safety), sticker books, small games, card games, small cars and trucks, action figures, Disney princesses or figures, Barbie dolls, Play Doh, yo-yos.
Let your imagination, your children and grandchildren be your guide in deciding what fun things could entertain these children this summer.

We are hoping to make 120 kits, some for boys, some for girls, both young (grammar school) and older (teenagers). On Wednesday, April 16, we will package the kits in nylon drawstring bags for distribution by Assistance League volunteers.

You can deliver purchased items to:
Marie Shea - 9150 Beaver Brook Way, Charlotte, NC 28277     Ph 704-408-7303

If you order from Amazon, simply put Marie Shea's address in the shipping column and they will deliver it to her home.

 DRESS FOR SUCCESS:

 A "FINISHING TOUCHES" DRIVE!

At our May 14th Fashion Show & Luncheon, Philanthropy will be collecting new and next to new workplace-appropriate PURSES.  Some women will come into Dress for Success the day of their interview, so everything must be ready to wear right out the door.  THANK YOU for contributing to this need.
