Philanthropy Meeting Minutes February 5, 2026

Location:  Uwharrie Bank 12:30-1:30

Attendees: Becky Hart, Henrietta Howell, Marilyn Bosian, Barbara Guth, Dorinda Jenkins, Carol Rubin, Helen Ray, Susan Perkins, Debbie Peterson, Sandi Darst, Gayle McKearin, Robin Meek, Marilyn Burke, Mary McGarvey, Betty Blackwell, Elizabeth Nieuwsma, Rebecca Mikkelsen, Jean Markley, Sheryl Johnson and welcome to new member Amy Epstein!

We started off the meeting by discussing the Five Myths about the Philanthropy Club:

1)     Philanthropy is required of all members. Not true, but we are (very!)happy to have you participate.

2)     Our meetings are one hour because that’s when the Bank can give us the room. It’s actually so our working members can attend.

3)     Philanthropy only gives money to the two big Fundraisers. We give year-end gifts to ALL our non-profit partners. Also, our collection drives give what our partners ask for.

4)     Any non-profit can partner with CWC. We have six non-profit partners, based on our calendar and fundraising capacity. They all offer an opportunity to satisfy our goals of hands-on service to women and children, in small groups, with no training required, as well as offering a chance to socialize and make friends.

5)     Becky cries at all the meetings. Only some 😉
